How to Use the Visual Tile Estimator
1. Set Units & Room Dimensions
- Switch Units: Select Imperial (feet & inches) or Metric (meters & centimeters) at the top of the controls.
- Input Space: Enter your wall or floor width and height. The interactive grid dynamically updates your total surface area (in sq ft or sq m) on the fly.
2. Configure Tile Shape & Layout Pattern
- Choose Pattern: Select your desired layout from options like Rectangle stack, Rectangle 1/2 offset, or Rectangle 1/3 offset.
- Enter Tile Size: Specify your individual tile’s length and width in inches or centimeters.
- Rotate Orientation: Click Rotate axis (horizontal) to quickly flip tile orientation without re-entering numbers.
3. Fine-Tune Alignment (Tile Shifter)
- Adjust Starting Point: Use the X and Y sliders under Tile Shifter to slide the grid left/right or up/down.
- Optimize Cuts: Position full tiles where they look best in your room to eliminate awkward thin edge cuts. Click Reset to 0 to return to the default bottom-left origin.
4. Review Estimates & Factor in Overage
- Live Material Count: View your real-time breakdown under Estimate, including total area, number of full tiles, cut edge pieces, and minimum tiles required.
- Visual Overlays: Toggle Tile or Excess (cut off) checkboxes to highlight cut pieces directly on your layout grid.
- Set Overage Percentage: Adjust the Overage (%) field (10–15% recommended) to ensure you order enough extra material for waste and future repairs.
